Can not download purchased product
Published on September 7, 2006 By Fairyy~ In Object Desktop
I purchased the Argos Suite 2 days ago - I'm becoming totally frustrated with trying to download this. I have tried over and over again. No matter what browser I try - it will not finish. I tried in the day - afternoon and 3 am. So far today I have spent most of the morning trying to download this .......its only 16 mbs..this should not be such a problem. Even though im using dial-up connection , this is rediculous. So far this AM it was downloading at 5.3 kbs/sec and I left the room for 5 minutes and come back to a " finished " download. Yeah right - I knew right away that was not happening. It said finished 5.6 mbs ....the zip on my desktop said " empty, corrupted or spanned zip "
Ok , so I opened Stardock Central....I asked in forum about the download manager ...no answer ...I cant find a way to enter this link there . The download manager is an empty box. So I added the link to the browser in SDC. That downloaded at a rate of 3kbs/sec and said it would be over 2 hours. No problem..I dont mind waiting 2 hours. But I do mind wasting time and having to redo the same thing over and over. This time when it reached 8.5 mbs...it said IE cannot download from Stardock.com - connection has been reset.

So another wasted morning and I still have nothing to show for it.

If there is a problem and your aware/working on it - acknowledge it. Dont let me keep wasting my time trying.

I think dial up is your problem here. Is high speed not available in your area? Because if it is, I think you should think about upgrading. It's not very expensive anymore. I get SBC DSL for 12.99 a month.

The fact is that dial-up should not be a problem at all. Fairyy has not had problems with other downloads. Something else is up. Maybe someone at Stardock has dial-up at home and can test tonight.

Thanks Zubaz. The fact that i have or dont have high speed should not be the deciding vote. When I purchased the suite it didnt say " dont bother if your using dial up .

I just tried again using leechget......the download was going right along - rather fast I might add. I really thought this time I was going to have no problem. It was up to over 10 mbs downloaded - I turned my head and when I looked back...it was back to downloading at 1% again. Again 16 mbs is not that big a download. It should take about 50 minutes at 5kbs/sec. I have no problems downloading larger programs. So this is Stardocks server problem. I will eventually get dsl - but it should not be a requirement to buy something from Stardock.

leechget stated that d/load stardock.com does not support resume download...

hadn't thought about that.. I believe it's supported on regular skin, IP, etc., downloads. I use it when I want to download a large iconpackage and want to go to bed - it will disconnect and shutdown computer when done.

and I liked the older leechget better - that free version let you have up to 8 downloads at a time instead of one.

Im still glad you mentioned it - it will come in handy for other stuff - I see it downloads a bit faster on everything.

So thanks Bichur

Hey all. I also ran into the same problem you described when I purchased this. It is probably some type of server timeout problem. I somehow lucked out last night and the download completed using SC. I did a copy and paste of the URL in the receipt Stardock sent me after selecting Web Browser mode in SC. I'm sure you've made a number of attempts Fairyy, please don't give up. I'd really miss your Fairyy SS's and your participation in the forums.

Since Fairyy has already paid for this skin suite...why doesn't someone just send it to the poor girl via email.

Hello Fairyy!!! See your still having problems too. Make it try #9 tonight for me. If Stardock would please answer some questions about this I'd be mighty appreciative. In fact when I used my SDC program tonight it popped up and reminded me that it was going to expire in 23 days. Now should I pay for a renewed subscription or not........hmmmmmmmmm.

Either that or I will have to blackmail, threaten someone, or better yet I'll write to the editorial page of my local paper......no better than that... I'll write my Congressman!

All day I asked for a reply from someone from Stardock on this. I asked on the front page where its being sold...my post remains ' ignored' I posted yesterday am that it was taking me 9 to 20 minutes to log in to WC. At the end of the day all I got was an implied " you must have a bad internet connection, dial-up? " Yep, its only bad when I try signing into WC. But works perfectly well any other time. So I guess what it comes down to is figure it out for yourself because we dont give a crap that you cant get what you paid for. I have been a member/customer here for quite awhile. I have been ignored. I no longer give a crap about the suite. Keep it.

Noone wants to admit that it just might be a SITE problem - no of course its always someone elses fault.

The fact that I have seen no more than 4 to 6 members logged in for the past few days and 600 visitors ...hmmm ...and not a moderator in site.

I had a Rainlendar(Cygnus) that was uploaded on Monday to WC - It came out the same day as boops " Cynus " WB. I needed to fix the month margin so I updated it 2 hours later - here it is Friday and it still sits in Moderation Queue. Ive never had any update sit in mod queue more that 24 hours - if that long......

That must be my " slow dial-up " connection too.

Whatever -

Great idea Web. Too bad the file, even seperated into smaller files is too big to go through email. The theme itself is 12.5mb.

My email can handle 15 mbs per email - I get that amount zipped on emails daily.

The point is though - its not the responsibility of other members of WC to fix this or send me the Suite , is it ? Old Crab is on his 9th try - being on dial up is not a reason for a download to reset over and over again. In this thread alone I see others stating they still cant download the suite. But it still is being ignored.

The selling of skins/suites are supposed to be something common in the next season. Skinners with a " Master " status are going to be allowed to sell skins and share the cash with Stardock/WC . I guess that means only people with High Speed cable are going to have the ' privilidge ' of purchasing stuff. I dont intend to inconvenience myself again.

The worse buisness practice - ignoring ligitimit complaints/problems.

Fairry, I thought that I saw some discussion about your problem on IRC. So I think it's being looked at.

Have you opened a case/ticket/whatever with stardock? support@stardock.com or https://www.stardock.helpserve.com ?

At least then you can track what's going on.

Sorry you (and the others) are having such a hard time downloading this suite, and being a fellow dialup user, I feel your pain...... but unfornuately there's nothing a WC Mod can do about it. Have you contacted sales@stardock.com ?

I don't think that list applies to folks that aren't visiting the forums at the time.

All they had to do was respond - im very reasonable when I know im being heard. I will wait for days if I know there will be an outcome.

I know that you have no control over this. Im sure you know how long it takes to download 16 mbs. But to get up to 10mbs and have to start over at 0% time and time again is frustrating.

err... it's not in the queue.

That was because I deleted the rainy an hour ago - I figured it was invisible.

Im not sure to be honest , noone has said if thats just a forum count - but its been awefully quiet. Seems its easier to just not log in these days. All week its been a struggle to get past page 1.

But thanks for answering.

Fairyy~,

It's not just you. This is what I sent support today:
------------------------------------------------------

"Hello,

I never thought I would have to send one of these, here goes:

As you can see below, I have purchased the Argos Suite.

Using the link provided to download, it keeps stopping before or upto 5.9 MB while downloading.
I have used (2) download managers and have (tried) to download it manually, with no success. Total of about 25 times for all. That is extreme for 'me'.
It's like it times out after a certain amount of time. If I had DSL, it probably wouldn't be a issue.

The major problem for me is I'm on 56K and the download link provided doesn't have (resume) support. So I keep trying to download and when it stops I have to start all over again.

Needless to say, I have been trying to keep my cool, throughout this ordeal.
Out of all the products I have ordered, I have never run into this problem.

Solutions, if possible:

1.) Please, fix the download link, so that it has (resume) support. Please don't re-send the download link. I already have it and it's not working for me. 'Unless' it's another download link that I can try.

2.) Send the zip file directly to me, so that I can download it through my e-mail.

3.) Refund. (Last resort, if the other two options are unexceptable). I hope that this doesn't happen. I have been satisfied for years, until now.

"Please" don't ask me to buy the CD from you. I shouldn't have to pay more money for something that I (should) be able to download.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you",
