Not really an earth shaking matter ..but..
I just took a look at screen shot section. I know thats the least important section to most of you.Im wondering if the rules have changed or if there is a glitch in the ratings.
I Make it no secret that I dislike " cheesecake " screen shots of women in half nude poses. But it has been allowed since i've been here. Nudity doesnt bother me at all. Artistic nudes are quite pretty. Im talking about walls with women spread eagled in cutsie poses. I think there is a time and a place for everything. But..99% of the time, I just skip over those I find put women in a sexual way ...its no different if i were to make screen shots using naked men lying on a bear skin rugs. Not that I could even find such a wall. I tried..believe me......
I know that men and women are from different planets...I know that most dont care for my type of shots with fairies and dragons and flowers. And thats just fine.....

My question is.....could a moderator please check the SS section when they get a chance to see if there is a glitch or if someone is doing drive by ratings. I cant believe that there is that many shots with 1 or 2 star ratings. Seems out of place. If rules have changed and this type of shot is not acceptable..perhaps a notation from a moderator would be warranted. Some need a load of bricks dropped on them before they would actually take they low rating as a hint. I cant in all honesty rate a screen shot with cheeky women....

Thanks ..if and when someone gets a chance to look.

Ahh, the struggle with a mighty dragon is indeed a difficult task but made much easier when they're sleeping.

If you can't beat them, join them.

It must be a pain for moderators to even deal with so many screen shots some days. No wonder they get backed up in other sections. Granted , screen shots arent much to moderate but it still takes time to upload them to the site.

You got that one right....particularly when emails need to be sent regarding unobstructed walls, etc...

What was this thread about? Oh yeah, screenshots. This was originally (someone correct me if I'm wrong) meant to be a place to show your "works in progress" because this is a skinning site. It has become a different animal altogether. It is a place for the public to show how cool some of these skins are, a place to show what you've just created, and to some it has become a sort of art form. They (and I have done it) search and search for that right Winamp skin, recolor icons, and spend quite a bit of time on them. I understand this. What I don't understand is going through this process 4 times a day. Removing ratings for ScreenShots might be a good idea, IMHO. It would prevent spamming.

Ya got it in one.

The problem is...were they 'just' wip's, ratings would be utterly meaningless and not applicable to the section....but....many have evolved an 'artform' from screenie creation....and with that comes the same ego/rating/recognition issue as applies to ALL other 'artforms'....

...and some of them are pretty cool. You can tell the ones that put in the effort. My screeny agenda has morphed since I came here, and I do believe that is probably typical.

I recently posted an SS Called 'Wild Thing' which i believe has caused a revealing of certain inequities and predjudices that had been only hinted at before.
The shot was first rated as a 3 star(Ok, i could live with that) but then 'someone' with the power to vote dropped it down to a 1 star and it was no longer visible. Effectively stopping anyone else who might have liked the shot from being able to view it.
After reading the comments in your article i realise that 'the right to vote' is something that can easily be abused. I know that i'm relatively new to the whole skinning thing and i've still a lot to learn, however, i don't take kindly to being 'spanked' in public by someone who thinks i'm being naughty!(Only my mother ever did that!!!)
Furthermore, to asssume that the power to vote gives you the right to decide what should and should not be viewed is an abuse of that responsibility. Yes, RESPONSIBILITY!
The guidelines are well established as to what a screenshot may or may not contain, the rest is subject to artistic interpretation and personal taste. If an SS doesn't appeal to me i don't comment on it, even if i could vote on a skin it wouldn't be to downgrade it. The fewer the comments, the more you get the message across.
After viewing the comments you made on an SS by Torben (AKA Smokey41) called "Stilletto Heels"Link

i realise that you have an elitist attitude which is in total contradition to what i thought the skinning community was about in the first place. A place where creativity, innovation, inspiration and artistry could combine in a beneficial form for all those who live in the computer world. Not only did you have no reason to vilify Torben's shot but to comment on it in such a way as to actually discourage one of the most talented and productive composers of screenshots on this site makes me wonder what it is in your life that you lack?
Take yourself out of the picture(if you can)for just a moment and see what's going on.EVERYONE(including you!)builds their screenshots for pictures and walls that THEY like! The moderators judge whether or not the shot is within the guidelines and the voters pass comment. If you don't like a shot then fine, but if you don't have anything pleasant to say about it then DON'T SAY ANYTHING! Keep whatever dissatisfations and disappointments you have in your own life to yourself and don't air them in public. Have some self-respect and also respect for others, you're not the only one on this site...or maybe that's what you want.

Your screenshot is a victim of the same bug mentioned earlier, that is, the moderator's rating has been ignored by the site in favour of a single one star rating. Not right and a bug which I hope is fixed soon.

First of all..seeing that you put a link in his screen shot to this forum ..I gather this is directed to me.
Let me just tell YOU something . I saw your shot..I did NOT rate your shot. Jafo and any other moderator has the ability to check on these things. I have nothing to hide what so ever. I have constantly made it NO secret that I think its an insult to use walls that put women in sexual cheese cake poses. So my comment that it was nice that he used his " mothers" picture on his desktop was just that...a comment. Most people might stop and think...hmmm...maybe I am offending any women that are also in the screen shot section. So my little friend..the fact that he has the right to post what I feel are "cheap " walls depicting women in a negative sexual way..gives me the right to make a what you deam a cheap comment. " Tit for Tat " as we say in the USA.

I also did not rate his shots. But..I will from now on if and when I chose.
So how about you just toddle off and keep your opinion to yourself about what I said to him.
He thinks hes ' the man " and I dont.........
Here a a comment Smokey The man left on someones screen shot where he makes a comment that he thinks that there are no screen shots that he finds in his opinion....are worth much ..his comment number 5 tells me he thinks that everyone else is below him.

Im guessing ....well..i'll just keep on guessing....

and a one star rating that was not from me...
Think perhaps that was worth mentioning in view of the rest of his post that seems to be directed at me.

While we are airing dirty laundry..might as well finish airing it.
I have sent emails to a moderator on this slight irritation..I also have told " them" that I could care less if I EVER had another screen shot put on front page as daily shot. But..WC consists of more than the same 3 or 4 people that are constantly put on for daily shot. I can pretty much say its the spammers that are daily shot because they bury everyone elses shots. Im sure daily shot is just a quick pick from first few pages most days. They're are other people that have done some great shots that are constantly bypassed. I will not use the " woman " thing here but that is one factor. One week the SAME person was daily shot 3 days in a row. 3 different shots ..3 in a row. No wonder most just dont bother anymore.
The male groupies seem to think they are the " team" and why not ? You have given them the impression that they are " special"
A few women here have NEVER been daily shot. This is wrong..and i think if you all stop to think about, you'll see my point.

The question about a glitch in the rating system has been answered many times over, so this thread has served its purpose.
