Page not displayed, etc
Published on February 25, 2006 By Fairyy~ In WinCustomize Site Issues
I know on weekends the site has issues at times. But, all week I've been have a lot of page " hang ups " If your aware of the problem - then no problem. But I havent seen anyone else comment on this all week. Logging in has even been a struggle.

Doesnt seem to matter what time of day I try. Even the forum etc . My cursor spins endlessly and just trying to get to a gallery after a long wait I get the " document contains no data " message. If I leave a comment after I hit " send " it comes up " page not displayed " . But if i exit the site and come back, the comment is there.
Example: This is where I was at the time of comment.

Hey Fairyy~, for about 5 hours today I could not even get here at all. For the last few weeks I have seen weird things happening. One of which I sent an email, about a week ago, with no response at all.

It's all prep for another membership drive.

"We . . . need . . . more . . . servers. Help . . . ussssss!"

SD needs to feed more skinning virgins to the mighty lizard-monkey. That always helps.

The Stardock servers have been taking 'a hit' in the past few days due to the launch of GalCivII so things can be a wee bit 'slow'.

Combine that with a bunch of weary Stardockians trying to catch a breather on the weekend and you'll get the odd down-time when the servers need a 'kicking'....but there's no-one around with the strength to raise a size ten to their collective bums....

Yeah, Fairyy, I've also had similar problems with signing in and page loads.

In recent times I've had many a 'timeout' or 'operation did not complete' error come up when submitting or commenting on a forum post....suggesting what I had just done had not worked. Most often, resubmitting (what apparently failed) results in double posts....and double checking doesn't work as the new entry does not appear when returning to the main page during that login period. However, because logging off and on again deletes the comments you've just written, I've opened another instance WC in Firefox to double check and found my submission had uploaded correctly, despite the error message saying it hadn't.

Also, I'll be logged in correctly, but there's times when clicking on a forum or skin link will take me to the selected page correctly and I'm no longer signed in. Refreshing/reloading the page will remedy this, but not always at first or second attempt.
It can all be so frustrating, so hopefully the crew will get to the bottom of it soon

Thanks for responding all..I was only leaving this message for the "site issue guy"

That sums it up well

There is actually no sum there at all. SD gave us teh first have of the equation: $0.05/error.

But without the number of errors . . . we can't have a sum.

I hate math.

Hey guys. Yes, as Jafo mentioned with the release of our new game, Galactic Civilizations II, our servers are being pounded more than normal which is causing a huge headaches for all our sites and not just WinCustomize.  However I do apologize for this inconvenience.

But, We are doing our best to try and get everything running smooth again.  Unfortunately our biggest set back right now is we do not have enough human resources to make everything happen fast enough.

I've already done some tweaks here and there to our servers so hopefully that will help some.  Its not a fix yet, but should help reduce the timeout errors you have been seeing.
